In this video, we will learn how to calculate the molar mass for compounds by adding up the atomic masses of all of their atoms. To find the molar mass of a compound, you need to follow these steps:

- Determine the chemical formula of the compound.

- Look up the atomic masses of each element in the periodic table. The atomic mass is usually listed below the element's symbol.

- Multiply the atomic mass of each element by the number of atoms of that element in the compound (the subscript).

- Add up the products from step 3 to get the total molar mass of the compound.

For example, let's find the molar mass of water (H2O).

The chemical formula of water is H2O.
The atomic mass of hydrogen (H) is 1.01 g/mol, and the atomic mass of oxygen (O) is 16.00 g/mol.

Multiply the atomic mass of each element by the number of atoms of that element in the compound. For water, there are 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom, so we get:
(2 x 1.01 g/mol) + (1 x 16.00 g/mol) = 18.02 g/mol

The total molar mass of water is 18.02g/mol. You can follow the same process to find the molar mass of any compound.

Finding the Molar Mass (sometimes called Molecular Weight although the units are different) of a compound is a essential skill for the chemistry topic of stoichiometry and the first step in converting from moles to grams (or grams to moles).
