Choosing your settings for night photos ⬇️

Use the rule of 500 to ensure that your stars won’t be streaking. This means that you’ll divide 500 by your focal length. For example, 500/25mm = 20 seconds. This will help you to calculate the shutter speed to use.

Then, drop your aperture as low as possible. Hopefully, you’ll have a lens that opens up at least as far as f2.8. If you’ve got one of those sweet f1.2 or f1.4 lenses, go ahead and leave the aperture at f1.8 for sharpness sake.

Then, try ISO 6400. Review your photo, and if it is too dark, raise the ISO. If it’s too light, reduce the ISO.

Good luck out there!
