There are numerous reasons why merging images may benefit you as a photographer. Although the camera has limitations, today's digital software makes it easy to blend multiple images together to ensure maximum focus from front to back.
Next time you shoot at a waterfall, consider blending a longer and shorter exposure together. Oftentimes, foliage can blow around in the wind, so if you only take your long exposure to blur the water, you may not have sharp leaves and trees. I like to take two different images and then blend the best of both to get motion blur in the water and sharp leaves.
