A tripod is just one more item you must purchase and carry for landscape photography, but do you really need it?
You may be surprised to find out that you don't need a tripod for most landscape photography. The only reason landscape photographers carry tripods is to allow them to use a longer shutter speed. You would want to use a longer shutter speed when you want to capture motion or in low-light circumstances when you don't want to be forced to raise the ISO, which will add noise to your images.
It's certainly beneficial to have a tripod, but if using one will break the bank or hurt your back, you can get by without it!
