This has got to be one of the most famous folk songs of all time & everyone from Beethoven to Spike Jones have written their own arrangements to it. Dinah Shore also helped make it popular in the USA when she performed it as "Yes my darling daughter." The original lyrics are inspired by a common occurrence of a Cossack soldier bidding farewell to his sweetheart.
"A young Cossack was riding off to the Danube,
bidding his young sweetheart, 'farewell!'
You, my dark & glistening horse,
don't stand still but take me on my way!"
Maestro Kazakov's (1924-2019 ) original variations are nothing short of breathtaking in this live concert performance from 1986. Back in the 1950's Kazakov was already playing on this chromatic convertor bayan which he himself helped design. Notice that he doesn't need his bellows to be in in the closed position for the final bellows-shake variation.
