After not having access to my stradella accordion for 8 months I'm slowly getting the feel of it again. I prefer the 'feel' of my free bass instrument but when it comes to the 'sound,' nothing comes close to my Sonola SS20. These variations on Paganini's Caprice were transcribed for bayan or accordion by R. Shimchik in 1963. They're not as dazzlingly virtuosic as other arrangements but I like that he follows Paganini's own variations more closely that the others do. The composer's original version is considered one of the most difficult pieces to play in the violin repertoire & many composers have published their own variations on it such as, Liszt, Chopin, Brahms & Rachmaninoff. You'll probably notice that the part that gave me the most difficulty was the bellows shake. I've never done a bellows shake on a single note melody before. Doing it with chords over a sustained bass is much easier for me.
