SEARCH WORDS IN GOOGLE DOCS
Searching within a Google Document means either finding a certain word or phrase across the document, or the advanced "find and replace" function.
First, let’s find a certain word in a document. The search menu opens up by pressing the Ctrl + F keyboard shortcut on a PC, or a Cmd + F on a Mac. After it opened on the top right, enter a specific word or phrase that you want to find in the entire document to, let’s say, correct the mistake. Be aware that it has to be entered identically, either way it just won’t find it. I’ll enter “template”, and then with green color it highlights for me all matches found across the document, and I’m able to easily distinguish them from other words on the page. And you also may want to use up and down buttons to quickly jump from one match to another.
FIND & REPLACE IN GOOGLE DOCS
The next step is the "find and replace" function, allowing you to find all matching words across the document and replace them with other words, separately or all at once.
To start, go to the "Edit" item on the top toolbar and press it. Drag your cursor down to the last item "Find and replace" and press it, or use a Ctrl + H shortcut. Now in the new window you basically do the same thing - enter a word. I’ll choose a “template”, and the algorithm will highlight with green color for me all matches found across the whole document, and will tell me how many matches it found there. Now I want to replace it with a “draft”, that I enter below, And click "replace". Here we go. It has just replaced the first word. Now the second thing that we can do here is to replace all matching words in the document. So again, you got a word to find, and the word to replace it with, and you go down to the “Replace All” button and press it. Now there’s no “template” word in the entire document, but there are six "drafts now", and that’s how it is done.
