Worst Sugar Alcohol for Weight Loss
Today I’m going to give you the top 3 worst sugar alcohols when it comes to weight loss.
I really wanted to make this video because I feel like there is a ton of ignorance out there when it comes to sugar alcohols.
For instance if you’re someone who drinks diet coke then I’m sure you had someone tell you that diet coke is the same as regular coke…. Ummm no.
Actually aspartame which is what most diet drinks are sweetened with didn’t even make the list. Because today isn’t about your body developing insulin resistance of time, a disruption of healthy bacteria in the gut, fluid retention, etc…
Today is simply about the immediate effect some of these sugar alcohols/ artificial sweeteners have on your blood glucose levels.
How we are going to do that is with the glycemic index... say all the negative things you want about it but I have rarely seen this to be inaccurate when it comes to measure the severity of which a specific food has an impact on your blood sugar.
Now, if you’re watching this then you’re more than likely an educated dieter and not a hot mess so you’ll rarely ever consume an individual food without pairing it with some source of protein but when it comes to sugar alcohols that’s not often the case.
Let me first start out by giving us a basis to compare everything to. The glycemic index is a scale that measures carbohydrates in relation to the effect they have on your blood sugar and goes from 0-100. On the lower end of the spectrum you have things like peanuts which has GI rating of around 7 due to the fat also inherent in peanuts which slows down the absorption of sugar and insulin spikes.
On the other end of the spectrum we have straight glucose. With a rating of 100, you’ll raring ever run into this in the wild unless you’re a type 1 diabetic and you accidently overdosed yourself with insulin so you keep these around.
Regular ole table sugar (sucrose) has a glycemic index of 68 and contains roughly 3.87 calories per gram.
