At the edge of the great Sahara desert in the north of Mali, lives a community of Kounta nomads, guardians of Islam. In this film, an old man tells us the story of his people, dating back from the time of the prophet.
For centuries, every year, the Kountas travel across the desert on camels in search of white gold, otherwise known as salt. The precious mineral is their livelihood. Extremely expensive, the Kountas sell it on the markets and it is then distributed all over western Africa.
