Bird Flu Causes our Whole Farm to Be On Lockdown!
You may have seen on the news lately that Avian Influenza is going around in a few different states. Well, Indiana is one of those states, unfortunately. Plus to top it all off, we are surrounded by turkey barns (where they mass produce turkeys in huge barns for big companies like Purdue). SO that means that we have to follow all the rules and regulations for our pasture-raised chickens.
The Department of Animal Health had to come and test 20 of our chickens last week. It was stressful for everyone. It was basically a COVID test for our chickens! Yikes. They have to come back in 2 weeks to test again. For now, none of our eggs or chickens can leave the farm. Lockdown!
I reckon it's just part of life on the farm.
