How to reset the root password if missed or deleted in RHEL - 6 :
Restart the system using init 0 command.
Disturb the splash screen while booting.
Select 1st option and press 'e’.
Select 2nd option and press 'e’.
At the end give one blank space and type 1 and press Enter key.
Then press 'b' to boot the system in single user mode.
Then prompt appears and type
passwd root command.
New password : XXXXXX
Retype password : XXXXXX
Exit
Then system starts as usual
