My Digital Quill | Excel Tips and Tricks #19 | Automatic Serial Numbers for Blank Cells in Excel | Excel Formulas and Functions | Excel #shorts | Excel shortcuts | Excel 365
This example covers on how you can generate dynamic serial numbers in Excel while skipping over the rows with no data. We have utilized two of Excel's key functions here. First one being the IF function with logical test prompting 'true' condition to empty cell and 'false' condition to COUNTA function in excel, which in turn would utilize the presence of the adjacent cell to prompt if the number is to be generated or not.
You can use this example in situations whereby you're either leaving empty rows for the aesthetics of your worksheet or simply waiting to add new data inside. This function can work for you without application of serial numbers each time you add data to your data field
