Threads in SolidWorks refer to helical ridges added to cylindrical faces to create a fastening mechanism between components. They are essential for creating realistic and functional models of nuts, bolts, screws, and other threaded parts.

SolidWorks offers two main methods for creating threads:

Using the Thread Feature: This is the simpler method and allows you to select a standard thread profile from a library based on diameter, pitch, and thread type (e.g., metric, inch). You can choose between a cut thread (removing material to create the thread) or an extrude thread (adding material).

Creating a Custom Thread: For non-standard threads, you can define a custom profile using a sketch. This involves creating a 2D sketch of the thread profile on a plane and then applying a helical sweep to follow the path along the cylinder.
