Nürnberg, Kettensteg, Fronfeste and Schleyerturm - chain bridge, Fronfeste and Schleyer Tower
The Fronfeste with the Schlayerturm, built in 1490, spans the southern outflow of the Pegnitz in the west of the city wall.
The Fronfeste and the Schlayer Tower at the western area of the city walls form the water gate where the Pegnitz leaves the city.
The Kettensteg is located at the old town outlet of the Pegnitz and is the oldest free-floating suspension bridge
Germany. After the 15th and 16th century Trocken- and Trudensteg were demolished, it was built in 1824 by the mechanic and later professor Konrad Georg Kuppler (involved in the development of the railway between Nuremberg and Fürth). The name refers to the suspension by several three meter long links on six pylons and massive abutments on both sides of the bank. Lateral iron girders and wooden pillars have served as supports since 1930. However, the original construction was retained.
