Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Using the CONVERT function to convert units in Excel.
Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel netcast. In this episode, we will be diving into the Convert function in Excel, which used to be a part of the Analysis tool pack but is now a core function in Excel 2007 and 2010. This function is perfect for converting between different units of measurement, such as inches to centimeters or pounds to kilograms.
To use the Convert function, simply enter =CONVERT and then the number you want to convert, followed by the from_unit and to_unit. For example, if we want to convert 123 inches to centimeters, we would enter =CONVERT(123,"in","cm"). The function will then return the converted value, which in this case is 312 cm.
One helpful tip is to use the FX button next to the function to access the Excel help topic for the Convert function. This will show you all the different units of measurement that can be used with this function, including distance, time, pressure, and more. It is important to note that the abbreviations used in the function are case sensitive, so be sure to enter them correctly.
While the Convert function is great for converting between different units of measurement, it cannot be used for currency conversions. However, it is still a powerful tool for quickly and accurately converting between various units. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of the MrExcel netcast, and be sure to join us next time for more Excel tips and tricks!"
