Cancer treatments are designed to kill tumor cells, but new evidence suggests that the way individual cancer cells die can sometimes actually benefit the tumor as a whole. Justin Gray, a graduate student in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, is studying this process in the hopes of stopping it. If he succeeds, his research could lead to new approaches for slowing down tumor growth and preventing cancer from spreading through the body.
