Hormones are the chemical language the brain uses to tell the body what to do and when to do it. Because they are so important to so many bodily processes, the timing of their release needs to be tightly controlled. Jacob Short, a graduate student in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, is developing a way to recalibrate the timing of the brain’s hormonal signals that could one day help many patients with health conditions caused by disrupted hormonal rhythms.
