This version of The Dalmore 12 was released in 2008 to replace the previous version. I actually never tried the previous edition, so I can't say how this compares, but I can say I do like this.
Even though Dalmore does at colour to the 12 year expression, don't let it put you off. Nine years maturation in ex-bourbon American Oak casks followed by it's final years into ex-oloroso casks, this dram is deep and complex for it's age. Lot's of notes of raisins, dark chocolate and some oranges.
Thankfully, there's not a hint of sulphur to be detected (something that many ex-oloroso cask whiskies suffer from).
I'd say this is well worth £40 for a standard bottling.
