An insidious eye disease, age-related macular degeneration blurs the central field vision of elderly people. It’s a leading cause of severe, permanent vision loss that preferentially affects white people over the age of 55. Dr. McKay is a professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. He’s hopeful that his research will lead to a treatment that prevents blindness for many people.
