In my final year of medical school, after seven years of Christmas cramming, festive focus and holidays hold up in the library, I’ve reached the last time I will have to spend my winter break studying.

However, I have learnt some really great lessons about how to be productive when studying over Christmas, and some fun ways to make sure you still have a great holiday period!

1. Make a schedule, even if you don't end up sticking to it
2. Get out of the house - coffee shops and the library are great options. You need to make sure you get some sunlight and some exercise each day to keep your body functioning at its best
3. Keep in touch with friends, try to study with others or at least speak to other people about how your studying is going - complaining about having to study over the holidays with other people makes up about 75% of how I have coped each year
4. Don't beat yourself up about missing a day or two here and there, it's unrealistic to think that you could be productive every single day
5. If you're living at home, tell your family that you need to focus and set boundaries about when you can't be disturbed
