The human body runs on an internal clock that changes how our bodies function depending on the time of day. Unfortunately, unnatural light sources like street lamps and cell phones can mess with this clock, leading to serious health problems. Michael Thomsen, a graduate student in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, aims to discover potential treatments for these ailments by studying how changes in light influence the body’s biological rhythms.
