The Citadel of Huế, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in central Vietnam, offers a glimpse into the country’s imperial past. Built in the early 19th century, this historic fortress was the seat of the Nguyen Dynasty, Vietnam's last ruling family. The Citadel is surrounded by thick stone walls and a moat, protecting the Imperial City at its core.
On this evening walk within the Imperial City, we see highlights like the grand Ngo Mon Gate and the Thai Hoa Palace, where emperors once held court. Deeper inside lies the Forbidden Purple City, the private residence of the emperor, though much of it was damaged during the Vietnam War. Despite the destruction, ongoing restoration efforts have brought much of the Citadel back to life.
There are several gardens, temples and ancient theaters, in this historic site. We have a relaxing tour around this imperial city and end our tour just around our starting point.
