Have you heard of VMDP but weren’t sure what it is? VMDP is the collection of virtualization front end drivers that are installed in a Windows VM that is running on Xen or KVM. The drivers help increase I/O performance. This talk will describe the function of each of the drivers that make up VMDP.
Before a VMDP package is released, each of the drivers need to run through the Microsoft WHQL test certification process. Drivers passing WHQL are signed by Microsoft. Signed drivers give customers the assurance that the drivers meet a basic level of quality. Microsoft signed drivers also install as trusted drives in the Windows OS. This talk will discuss the WHQL test setup, execution, submission, and challenges.
Finally, the Microsoft SVVP program will be presented. SVVP is Microsoft’s Server Virtualization Validation Program that lets customers know that Microsoft stands behind running Windows VMs on SLES hosts. Host systems that pass SVVP are listed in Microsoft’s Widows Server Catalog.
