One of the most controversial matters surrounding abuse against women is what is known as the 'victim blaming' culture in which victims are blamed for the crimes committed against them. This film aims to put the spurious arguments aimed at blaming abuse victims into perspective. Variations of the same excuses are brought about time and time again to shame the victim based on their behaviour, their state of mind and even their culture to shift culpability away from the perpetrator. The victim cannot be held responsible for the offender's actions no more than in any other crime.

Victims of such traumatic episodes deserve anonymity and support. Victim blaming leads to victims of abuse to feel ashamed of reporting what has happened to them to the police, through fear of not being believed, being judged by friends and family or being made to feel what happened to them was their fault. The Hidden Marks Report (2010) shows that a significant percentage of respondents didn't report abuse that had happened to them, be it rape, physical violence or stalking. In the case of serious sexual assault the percentage that did not report or discuss the incident with anyone else was 43%, almost half. 50% of respondents gave feeling ashamed or embarrassed as one of the reasons for not reporting sexual assault, whilst 43% thought they would be blamed for what had happened to them. These statistics are unacceptable and attitudes need to change.
