Herb Alpert - Rise (Cold Duck extended mix)
Every now and then I just need some plain old pure disco. And sometimes I need a bit more of that.
The song here is a great slice of disco/funk from way back, even though Herb Alpert's sax solo still sounds phoned-in to me. But, it may be that the leader of the Tijuana Brass really didn't see the point in working up inspiration for his disco cash-in hit. In any case, it's still a formidable groove and I needed more of it.
(The odd thing here is that the stems I got my hands on do not include the background vocalizing I remember from my LP version--the "shoops" and "woos" along with weirdly funked laughter. Makes me wonder now if those were overdubs applied to the album version but not to the 12" single?)
