This Resident Evil 4 game guide video shows how to survive the first big fight from chapter 1 taking place in the Village Square.
Use the opportunity that your enemies are unaware at first and rely on stealth. Reach the building from our video. Entering it will trigger the encounter with the Chainsaw Man. Block the window and head upstairs to collect the shotgun and the frag grenade. You can use them to weaken and kill the Chainsaw Man, however it's not mandatory to complete the battle. You can also block Chainsaw Man's frontal attacks by holding L1/LB and using your knife.
We recommend to escape to the roofs. Make sure to knock down ladders. Get back down if you notice you're getting surrounded. You should check one of the nearby buildings, because you can find a second grenade in the crate.
IT'S NOT MANDATORY TO KILL EVERYONE. You need to keep defending until the church bells are heard - the villagers will stop attacking you and the battle will end.
