We’re flying high in our 99th (and soon to be 100th) year!
In this latest episode celebrating the Zoo’s centenary, our animal experience team leader Lizzy discusses the role and evolution of our incredible free flight encounters.
Originally starting with just a few advocacy manu (birds), these immersive and interactive flight displays have grown to include a diverse range of species. These include previous pets that were donated to the Zoo, as well as rescued and rehabilitated wildlife that, because of their disabilities, were unable to be released back into the wild.
These free flight encounters take place at 11.45am every day of the week, where you can learn more about these charismatic characters, their specific behaviours and adaptations, and how to best support their wild cousins through positive, collective actions (like purchasing forest-friendly paper and wood products!)
