KDP Hardcover Upload Tutorial 2022 | How to create a case laminate hardcover with Amazon KDP
Today I am adding a case laminate hardcover for both Nailbiters and Architects, the two books in my apocalyptic science fiction series. (Yes, book #3 is in the pipeline, I’m working on it okay!) When I originally released Nailbiters as my first novel, I had it as only an eBook and I added a paperback and audiobook a few years ago. When I released Architects I did so with both eBook and paperback. At the time I could have added the hardcover via IngramSpark, but I really liked the look of a jacketed hardcover and I didn’t think I had the skills to make that happen for either book.
But then KDP announced their hardcover beta, which was the worst kept secret in self-publishing, and then they fully rolled it out in the US and I didn’t do much with it. Most of my catalog does not have a hardcover option. So in terms of back-list maintenance, it was time to get to work.
So I decided to use the KDP case laminate option to get this up and out to the people and I’m going to show you how to do it today.
For KDP you only have 5 trim size options for your case laminate hardcover. So if you are planning to use the same interior file for your paperback and hardcover (which is less expensive or time consuming then having one size for the paperback and one for the print), then I suggest you keep it to this range. For my AYA series, they are all in a size that doesn’t have a hardcover option in KDP or IS. So… yeah.
Here are the 5 available trim size for KDP Hardcover Case Laminate books:
-5.5 x 8.5
-6 x 9
-6.14 x 9.21
-7 x 10
-8.25 x 11
