The white tiger is an individual Bengal tiger with a congenital mutation. The mutation results in partial white coloration, namely black and brown stripes on white fur and blue eyes. This coloration is very rare among wild animals. The frequency of occurrence of white tigers is 1 in 10,000 with normal color. Reports of the white tiger have been reported for many decades from Assam, Bengal, Bihar and especially from the former native princely state of Rewa. Contrary to misconceptions, the white tiger is not considered a separate subspecies.
