US Pentagon chief announces $6B-military aid package for Ukraine, largest commitment to date
During a press conference at the Pentagon on Friday, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin revealed that the U.S. government will be providing $6 billion in funding for its Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
This commitment is the country’s largest assistance package to date and will provide Ukraine’s military with critical interceptors for Ukraine’s air defense systems, further counter-drone systems and support equipment, among many other munitions amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
“The outcome in Ukraine will determine the trajectory of our times,” Austin said, adding that if Russian President Vladimir Putin wins the war, Europe will face a new, unseen security threat.
