Only testing chords, with no tweaking. Just an overview of the diverse pad presets.
Upon first launching Analog Dreams, I was struck with the thought: "Astounding, it's as if my DeLorean just reached 88 miles per hour!" The presets transport you to a retro future, and I'm not just referring to the quintessential '80s pop sound. This venture delves deeper, embracing more sophisticated sounds that are applicable in contemporary production.
Analog Dreams transcends mere emulation of the '80s. It delivers what the era envisaged the future would sound like. This infuses a haunting sci-fi ambiance that immensely stimulates the imagination. Exploring melodies through the array of presets is a remarkable experience.
Priced at around 50 dollars, whether as a standalone product or part of Komplete 13, Analog Dreams represents exceptional value. It encompasses 150 sounds and 100 presets covering basses, effects, leads, pads, and plucks, all steeped in that quintessential analog essence. The package offers over 3 GB of content, making it an extraordinary compilation.
The strength of Analog Dreams lies in its presets. Engaging any of them instantly places you in the cockpit of an '80s time-traveling machine. This is undoubtedly an achievement. The basses and pads exude a thick, lush analog warmth that feels just right, while the leads and plucks evoke those sun-drenched '80s coming-of-age movie montages.
Is Analog Dreams sufficiently versatile? Frankly, its sound design options are more limited compared to other VSTs, and the interface is quite basic, but this simplicity is also part of the Native Instruments hallmark. The absence of extensive modulation options means that one cannot delve deeply under the hood. Some presets may not be particularly useful, at least for my style, necessitating further adjustments.
Nevertheless, the integration with Komplete Kontrol keyboards and the NI hardware ecosystem is top-notch in every respect. This provides a pleasing experience, particularly welcome when one starts to lose inspiration with complex software-hardware integrations.
In conclusion, while it may not be immensely flexible in sound design, Analog Dreams delivers an expertly curated collection of sounds that instantly transport you to that nostalgic, retro-futuristic '80s world.
It's a remarkable value for the price, and I would definitely recommend it.
