4 Hour Solar Time Lapse | Daystar Quark | Random Video Thursday's
This is some of my best astro work so far. And one of the neatest things I have captured in the hobby. It was a lot of work. 4 hours baby sitting the mount and around another 4 hours to process and turn images into a video. It was around 500 gigabytes of data. I did not realize that I actually captured the rotation of the sun in this time either. That was a surprise too. I wish I could have gone longer, especially since that flare launched right near the end and that region was becoming more active. But the mount hit the meridian and doing a flip would have added more work than I wanted. Also, there was an older guy (Night Sky Imaging) on YouTube live streaming this exact quadrant of the sun the same time as me. I had no idea. And he was also making a time lapse of this too.
I set up Firecapture using non-16bit bit and high speed mode to take 1000 frames (which took only about 6 seconds) and then wait 20 seconds to start another capture. I used about a medium gain and around a 6ms exposure. Histogram was about 80% from the right and frames were flat calibrated.
