Meet the Moloch (Moloch horridus) — a lizard of the family of agamid. The name of this lizard was named after the pagan deity Moloch, who, according to legend, brought human sacrifices. George grey gave Moloch the divine name. He had been exploring Australia since 1839, and when he discovered this lizard, he thought it looked like a cruel Indian creature that devoured children.

Moloch is widely distributed in the sandy deserts and semi-deserts of Central and Western Australia.

And this lizard is the real embodiment of brutality! This being with the name of a deity is one example of convergent evolution. This is when in the course of evolution there is a similarity between organisms that live in similar conditions. The body length is up to 22 cm. the Head is small, narrow; the body is broad, flattened, covered with numerous short curved horn spines of various sizes, which form a kind of horns above the eyes and on the pillow-like outgrowth on the neck.
