The white rhinoceros (lat. Ceratotherium simum) is the largest representative of the rhinoceros family. Contrary to the names, the color of the white rhinoceros differs slightly from the color of the black one, and this name, apparently, came from a distortion of the Boer word wijde (wide, broad-faced), which the British changed in sound to “white” - “white”. From the English the name passed into other languages.
