In this video, I talk about the importance of control. It doesn't matter if you want to do BW calisthenics, weighted calisthenics, explosive movements, gymnastics skills, or plyometrics; to get the most out of any of these approaches, and to do so while minimizing injury, a foundation of control is needed. Way too many people, especially beginners, are so focused on "progression" that they completely forget about the importance of control. Control establishes your basic movement competence; it ensures you load the muscles that you want, through the ROM that you want, while minimizing the unpredictable outcomes of mindless movement. Basic BW exercises are excellent tools for developing control, and performing them with exceptional control unlocks the power that they have to improve your health, fitness, and aesthetics.
