Hi Everyone,
as you know, 3DS Max doesn't come with Mental Ray anymore. May be the new engine Aronld is great but if you are Mental Ray fan like me, you don't want to throw away your knowledge. You know MentalRay is a great great renderer.
Here is a good news, you can download and install and use mental free by directly download it from Nvida. It only charge you if you use network rendering. So, for normal user using mental ray within MAX, it is free. For power user, the network rendering price is not high
1. download mentalray plugin for 3ds max 2018 from below:

2. Then you receive email with download link.
3. unzip and install
Mental-Ray-3ds-Max-2018-WIN-1.0.exe
4. start 3ds max
5. So now we can enjoy Mental Ray!!

Most installation of 3ds max plugins are just copy the files to appropiate folder. I zipped by copy of Mental Ray plugins "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2018\Plugins\NVIDIA" into a zip file.
(Sadly to announce that Nvida just discontiued development of mental ray on 20 Nov, 2017. What can we say, farewell to the wonderful rendering engine. However, I will still be using until it totally dead)
