During the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky operation, the troops of the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts eliminated a large grouping of German troops. All attempts to unblock the surrounded parts of Stemmermann were unsuccessful. 10 German divisions and 1 brigade were defeated, two Wehrmacht army corps ceased to exist.
