My land art project “Fibonacci Shell” is about 8’X13’ large and consists of raked and smoothed sand, stones, and rocks. It is in the form of a shell displaying the Fibonacci sequence commonly found in nature. I was inspired by land artists Andy Goldsworthy and Andres Amador, as well as the scenery of the site, which was San Simeon, California. The overall intended meaning was to reflect on the coexistence of math and art in nature, and how I as an artist could add to that. I’m really happy with how this piece turned out and it was heartbreaking to leave it on the beach, but I feel satisfied knowing that the ocean is going to cover it by night, and that is a part of its lifespan and meaning as well, to be taken back into nature.
Also shoutout to the couple who walked by who are now part of the thumbnail :)
