Meet the capuchin (Cebus) or the broad-nosed monkey. Broad-nosed, by the way, they were called because of the wide septum between the nostrils, in contrast to the higher primates of the Old World (Africa and Asia), which are called "narrow-nosed monkeys". A person also has a narrow nasal septum between the nostrils. For this and a number of other not so obvious signs, New World primates are well separated from other higher primates as a result of their long and independent development.

European explorers who visited the forests of the New World in the 16th century noticed the similarity of the tufts of brown hair and peculiar sideburns on the head of local monkeys to Capuchin monks in brown clothes with large hoods. That's why they gave them the name Capuchin.

Victorian organ-grinders had Capuchin monkeys who danced and collected coins. Now these animals with cute faces and charming antics appear in all sorts of performances and films, such as"Pirates of the Caribbean". But the most famous capuchin is Marcel, Ross's favorite monkey from the TV series "Friends".

Agile and slender Capuchin monkeys weigh only 1.36 — 4.9 kg. The fur varies from species to species, but most often primates of this group can be seen with cream or light brown coloration around the face, neck and shoulders. The body reaches 30-55 cm in length.
