Here's my tenor saxophone cover of Lavender Town from Pokémon R/B/Y! I'm Sab and I love jazz and video games, so now I make covers that combine two of my favorite things!

So for one of our last music theory assignments for the year, our teacher told us to create an arrangement of a song. I remember telling him I didn't want to do something that I had intended for YouTube and couldn't think of something for a few days.

Then I was about to go to sleep when I thought about doing Lavender Town because it was so simple and I would be able to add a lot of different things to it.

So there are 4 different layers if you couldn't tell by the quad box. So there's the original melody and harmony with some adjustments for voice leading and chords. Then for the next layer, I found inspiration from a previous cover. I had referenced Lavender Town in Pokéball Factory back in October, so I thought it would be fitting to reference Pokéball Factory in Lavender Town! And for the last layer, it was an original line that I wrote. I love the different chord qualities like the 6 chords I made somewhat intentionally. After that one run, I just heard it going to a concert D, which happened to create a 6 chord throughout the bar. And I think my favorite chord I created was the Amin9 chord at the very end. It gives me chills, but it's also really satisfying in terms of a resolution for this song. Because it keeps the minor quality of the song, but the natural (major) 9th MAKES IT SOUND SO NICE!

I know this arrangement is really simple and exposed, but I wanted to keep that true to the original Lavender Town.

I was gonna do some video effects for this, but I kept forgetting to look through everything that Premiere Pro had, so I ended up going with some darker lighting to make it a bit spoopy. And I realized this is a bit more zoomed out than usual, I forgot to adjust the camera a bit better, but it's not that big a deal for now.

I won't have a musical video for a while, but I'll have vlog in 2 weeks explaining what's gonna be going on with the channel in the next few weeks!
