Workplace injuries and illnesses are common in the United States. In 2021, employers reported 2.6 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses (Bureau of Labor Statistics). This translates to 2.7 cases per 100 full-time equivalent workers.

Some industries have higher rates of workplace injuries and illnesses than others. The most common workplace injuries are sprains, strains, and tears, followed by injuries to the back, and falls, slips, and trips. The most common workplace illnesses are respiratory illnesses, followed by skin diseases and disorders, and musculoskeletal disorders.

Only proper recordkeeping and reporting can help you identify workplace safety trends and patterns, investigate incidents, and put in place effective safety measures to prevent recurrence.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
understand the importance of OSHA’s injury and illness recordkeeping and reporting requirements
identify cases in the workplace that meet OSHA's recording and reporting criteria
complete the correct forms and log appropriate incident data
know when and how to report cases to OSHA

The course contains relatable scenarios, handouts, activities, and final assessments.
