In a Portuguese village named Vale de Salgueiro, encouraging children to smoke is a tradition of the religious festival called "King's Feast.” During the two-day festival, some children as young as 5 can be seen enjoying a cigarette. Parents believe this is fine, even though some children end up smoking more than 50 cigarettes during the festival. Residents said the children were not actually smoking, and they didn't inhale it. However, according to WHO, tobacco kills more than 7 million people each year, and children accounted for 28 percent of the deaths attributable to second-hand smoke in 2004.
