Puccini 'Tosca' - "Vissi d'arte" - Act 2 - Final scene with Angela Gheorghiu and Bryn Terfel
In this extract from the end of Act 2 of Puccini's 'Tosca' we hear the famous soprano aria "Vissi d'arte" and see the subsequent death at her hands of Baron Scarpia, the Chief of Police in Rome. He had demanded that she give herself to him in return for releasing her lover Cavaradossi, who is under arrest for harbouring Angelotti, an escaped political prisoner. As will be seen, Tosca finds a way out of her difficulty in a highly melodramatic fashion. This excerpt comes from the Royal Opera House production given in 2011 and starring Angela Gheorghiu and Bryn Terfel, with Jonas Kaufmann as Cavaradossi, and is uploaded with all due acknowledgements.
