When he reached the age of 92, the great maestro Leopold Stokowski decided to give up the rigours of public concerts but continue to make records instead. In July 1976, now aged 94, he recorded a selection of short pieces for an "Encores" LP. The orchestra was the specially-assembled 'ad hoc' band of top-flight London players entitled the National Philharmonic. Here they are in a brilliantly virtuoso performance of Rimsky-Korsakov's famous miniature 'interlude' from his opera "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" with the nonagenarian conductor in full control. ...
