You may recognise this opening shot as it was the location of one of the final scenes in the blockbuster movie Gladiator by Ridley Scott starring Russell Crowe.
San Quirico d’Orcia and the surrounding beautiful medieval countryside has been used in many films over the years but most recently in Gladiator.
The whole region is a UNESCO World Heritage area.
