The administration of Captain Ibrahim Traore has announced that national consultations will be held at the end of this month to determine the next steps in the country's transition to civilian rule. The military government, which has ruled Burkina Faso for more than a year, is about to come to an end. Recall that Traore pledged to assist a transition that would end in elections in July 20 24 when he first assumed office on September 22, 2022, and was named interim president of Burkina Faso in October of the same year.
Following a press announcement read on national television and signed by Minister of Territorial Administration Emile Zerbo, national meetings have been scheduled for Ouagadougou on May 25 and 26. As per the October 14th, 2022 Charter, representatives of the country's active forces will be allowed to discuss the next actions that need to be taken in the transition, which will last until July 1st, 2024, during these meetings.
