Breastfeeding after a C-Section is not only possible but is also recommended by medical experts as the healthiest option for feeding newborn babies.
If you had a planned or unexpected surgical delivery, you can breastfeed your child but the surgery may make the process a bit more challenging initially.
Breastfeeding is beneficial for both the mother and the child, so here are 5 tips to help you with successful breastfeeding after a C-Section.
1️⃣ Start by getting help. You just had surgery and are recovering from it, so learning to breastfeed and care for your baby alone may be difficult. So, don’t hesitate to ask for help from the nurse, your mother, or anyone. Make sure you take an ample amount of time to rest and try snuggling the baby close to you.
2️⃣ Practice skin-to-skin contact with your baby to enhance your milk supply and bond with your baby.
3️⃣ Breastfeed your baby by responding to its cues and start feeding whenever your baby demands milk. If not, try feeding your baby every 2-3 hours and bring your baby close to the breast to increase milk supply.
4️⃣ If your baby is not drinking enough or sleeps while drinking milk, or if your milk is slow to come in, try to pump often expressing by hand.
5️⃣ Lie in bed in your comfortable position, or try lying side, belly to belly with your baby, and try breastfeeding your baby. Use soft pillows to support you and the baby during this process.
6️⃣ If you are not able to solve a breastfeeding problem by yourself, try getting help from an expert with experience to help you.
🤱🏻 Remember, with practice, it will become easy and if you face any issue, the sooner you address the issue to an expert to get help, the easier it will be to solve.
