From 79-82 to 88-90 MPH in pens🔥
An athlete update from Performance Coach @ph3performance.
Tread Athlete @carson.ritola came to Tread as a young sophomore who really just needed some direction toward his overall development goals. At 6’3 215 lbs, I knew we could work to improve his body composition and let the weight room work its magic by setting achievable strength goals month-to-month.
Mechanically; we set up a plan to work on his “squatty” loading pattern on the back side, late arm, lack of hip/shoulder separation, and unstable brace leg.
The anchor drills for him were Roll-Ins, Ten Toes, Lasso from a separated Position, and Step Backs (where he worked on patiently loading into peak leg lift).
Overall as his strength went up, he was able to create more stability on the mound. Additionally, as the arm got more on time, he learned how to catch the arm deep, allowing him to aggressively pull into ball release from a more retracted position (using the bigger muscles in his upper body - the pec, lat and subscap).
From 79-82 mph at the start to now 87-89 T90 mph heading into his Junior Summer, this will be a solid arm to keep an eye on as he moves through the Summer circuit as an uncommitted LHP. 📈
Strength numbers 🏋️♂️
DB Bench: 50lbs ➡️ 85lbs
Squat: 280lbs ➡️ 350lbs
Deadlift: 320lbs ➡️ 400 lbs
Not too shabby!
It's amazing what can happen from finally having a crystal clear goal, a detailed plan, and the tenacity to keep showing up and getting after it every week.
