Last Saturday, December 11, marked 20 years since China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO). The country's international trade has grown six-fold since its accession to the global trading body in 2001. China's WTO membership was a milestone in the country's reform and opening-up. But threats of a COVID-19 resurgence have weighed down global trade and a fragile recovery. At a time when international cooperation is needed more than ever, open and inclusive global trade can help drive economic growth. On this, CGTN's Tian Wei talked to Li Chenggang, the Chinese ambassador to the WTO. He shared his thoughts on the country's persistent efforts to reform and open up, in step with the world economy. He also shed light on the momentum of WTO reform.
