Aaron Copland's 'Fanfare for the Common Man' was one of a series of fanfares requested from various American composers by conductor Eugene Goossens. These were to be played at the start of each concert during the Cincinnati Orchestra's 1942-43 season and it is Copland's offering that has retained a regular place in the the repertoire.
The performance seen here opened the 2000 Proms Season In London's Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Andrew Davis's direction.
